Taking its inspiration from Herman Miller and Scandinavian aesthetics, I designed this table to fill a very specific need: to display the client’s Bose sound system.

Constructed from a combination of new and reused poplar the table is structurally supported by a custom fit floating shelf bracket mounted to the wall. The legs, while not offer true support, are set at 15° angles and provide concealed cord management for the sound system.

Cord management was a big consideration in this design. The table slab, like the legs, have a channel to hold and conceal power cords.

To create a finish with depth, a combined several coats of primer, paint, and clear coat were applied. The primer was white, followed by red, then black paint. I scuffed the black finish to allow hints of red to peak through, then I top coated it with several coats of polywhey.

The hardest part of the whole operation was giving the table up to its new home. I feel like a piece of me goes into every piece I make.

Reclaimed Barn Beam Mantel

https://www.greenrabbetworkshop.com/projects/reclaimed-barn-beam-mantel

https://www.greenrabbetworkshop.com/projects/reclaimed-barn-beam-mantel#comments

Uncategorized

(function(jQuery) {function init() { window.wSlideshow && window.wSlideshow.render({elementID:"168832341158436126",nav:"thumbnails",navLocation:"bottom",captionLocation:"bottom",transition:"fade",autoplay:"0",speed:"5",aspectRatio:"auto",showControls:"true",randomStart:"false",images:[{"url":"2\/1\/1\/6\/21169548\/img-6426.jpg","width":400,"height":300,"fullHeight":800,"fullWidth":1067},{"url":"2\/1\/1\/6\/21169548\/img-6424.jpg","width":400,"height":534,"fullHeight":1067,"fullWidth":800},{"url [...]

I love the look and feel of old wood. Especially wood that's spent a century or so working to hold up a barn. So, when I get the chance to work with old working wood, I jump on it. I was commissioned to make a custom mantelpiece, from an old oak beam!
I worked hard to clean and refresh the wood, but not destroy its character. After I tracked down a suitable beam, I washed it with wood bleach, scrubbed and rinsed, then let it dry in the hot summer sun for a couple days.

Getting Started

https://www.greenrabbetworkshop.com/projects/getting-started

https://www.greenrabbetworkshop.com/projects/getting-started#comments

Uncategorized

I've been scratching my head about how to begin this blog.
